Our custodians have been disinfecting the campuses over spring break. At this time, we have only cancelled the junior high track meet for Tuesday, March 17, 2020 as two of the four schools participating have already cancelled school for next week. Wharton ISD follows the guidance of national and local health officials to help protect our students and staff from all communicable diseases. The District is aware that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is monitoring an outbreak of a respiratory illness caused by the coronavirus. While there are no reports of the illness in our area, please be assured Wharton ISD school health officials closely monitor all developments and are in communication with public health agencies. WISD will adhere to all guidance provided by our school health officials in regard to protecting students and staff against the transmission of communicable diseases, including guidance regarding the coronavirus.
There is still much to be learned about 2019-nCoV. Based on current data, CDC advises that this novel coronavirus is likely spread in a similar manner to other respiratory illnesses like influenza. Given that, the best recommendations to prevent the spread of respiratory illness include the following:
• Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
• Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Stay home when sick.
• Cover coughs and sneezes.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
We hope these recommendations will assist you in better preparing for a possible response to 2019-nCoV.As of Friday, March 13, 2020 at 10:00 AM, the Wharton ISD plans to welcome our students and staff back to school on Monday, March 16, 2020. Please continue to monitor our website and social media as we will post any updates to the community through these outlets.

COVID- 19 - Please remember that it is still cold and flu season. Public health officials advise following basic prevention guidelines against the flu and other common respiratory illness including:
- Everyone 6 months or older is encouraged to get a flu shot.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Stay home when you are sick. Keeping a sick child at home prevents the spread of illness in the school community and allows the child an opportunity to rest and recover.
- Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
