Alvin Dotson II started teaching and coaching in Fort Bend ISD at Christa McAuliffe Middle School in the year of 2000. In 2002, Dotson was hired to be the Defensive Line Coach and Head Softball Coach at Fort Bend Thurgood Marshall High School. In 2005, Coach Dotson was promoted to Co-Defensive Coordinator at Marshall High School. Dotson’s defense led district 23 5A in every defensive category and helped the team to a 9 and 1 record. Also, in his role as the Co-Defensive Coordinator at Fort Bend Marshall, Dotson’s defense was ranked number 1 in 2006 and 2007. In 2008, Coach Dotson was hired at Fort Bend Elkins as the Defensive Line Coach and Special Teams Coordinator. Later in 2010, Coach Dotson became the Defensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Football Coach. Elkins immediately saw improvement from ranking 6th the year before to ranking 2nd in total defense. In ten years at Elkins, Coach Dotson had the number 1 ranked defense three times. In 2018, Coach Dotson was hired at Baytown Sterling to be the Defensive Coordinator. While at Baytown Sterling, the Rangers improved in every defensive category, including being the number 3 ranked defense in one of the hardest football districts in 2019.
Alvin Dotson has been teaching for a total of 22 years and is well respected in the Teaching Profession. At Marshall, Coach Dotson was Nominated for campus Teacher Of The Year and then, in 2013, Coach Dotson won Teacher of The Year at Fort Bend Elkins High School. Coach Dotson has taught Behavior Intervention, Functional Independent Living, Inclusion English, Physical Education, Health, and spent two years as a Department Head.
A Houston native, Dotson graduated from Willowridge High School where he earned his letters in both football and baseball. He then attended Prairie View A&M University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Human Performance in 2000. In May of 2013, Coach Dotson received his Master’s Degree in Education Administration.
Alvin Dotson has been married to his beautiful wife Alanna for 19 years. Together they have three children, Aneyssa, 28, who is an elementary teacher. A’La, 18, a current student at University of North Texas, and Amaya, 17, who is a senior at Hightower High School.
