Texas provides annual academic accountability ratings to its public school districts, charters and schools. The ratings are based largely on performance on state standardized tests and graduation rates. The ratings examine student achievement, student progress, efforts to close the achievement gap and postsecondary readiness. Wharton ISD received a 77 or C rating. Wharton High School received a 75, or C rating. Wharton Jr. High received an 87, or B rating. Additionally, Wharton Jr. High received a Distinction in Comparative Academic Growth. Wharton Elementary received a 52, or F rating, and must engage in school improvement interventions, as required by law. Sivells, which is paired with Wharton Elementary for accountability purposes, also received an F rating and will also participate in school improvement interventions.
